Democrats Just Told You Their 2027 Plan. It’s a Full Government Takeover of Your Healthcare.

A new report out from Politico confirms prior warnings from Senior Matters for America are justified. Rep. Pramila Jayapal, founder of the Medicare for All PAC, is moving immediately on single-payer legislation if Democrats retake the House in November. 

According to the Politico report, Jayapal plans to work with Democrat party leaders when Congress returns in October, pressure them to hold a full committee markup of her Medicare for All bill, and turn a potential 2027 House majority into a launching pad for a complete government takeover of American healthcare by 2029. She describes it as a two-year runway to the most radical restructuring of the American healthcare system in history.

And if you are a senior with Medicare, Medicare Advantage, or private supplemental coverage you spent decades building? Under this plan, it all goes away.

What Democrats Are Actually Proposing

The Politico piece features Jayapal celebrating polling from her own Democratic firm showing near universal support for Medicare for All among Democrats. She tells the reporter that the old arguments against it, higher taxes, long wait times, losing your doctor, no longer register with voters.

Here is what she is not telling you: that poll was conducted by a firm working directly for her Medicare for All PAC. 

What Battleground Voters Actually Think

Seniors Matter for America commissioned a survey of 1,000 likely voters across the 37 congressional districts rated Toss Up, Lean Republican, or Lean Democrat by the Cook Political Report. The firm was FabrizioWard, one of the most respected names in polling. The results were unambiguous: 85% say they are satisfied with the coverage they have, including 46% who are very satisfied.

The very voters Democrats claim are desperate for a government-run system overwhelmingly like what they already have. More than four in five voters with private insurance like their current health care plan.

When those voters were told what Medicare for All actually does to them, support for Democrats collapsed:

• Net 26 points against: Opening a single government plan to all, including illegal immigrants, adds trillions to the national debt our children and grandchildren will pay for.

• Net 22 points against: The plan risks either a massive increase in government outlays to healthcare providers, or the forced closure of hospitals and doctors' offices that cannot operate under Medicare reimbursement rates.

• Net 18 points against: The plan results in the biggest middle-class tax increase in American history.

• Net 17 points against: The plan eliminates every American's existing health coverage and replaces it with a one-size-fits-all government system.

The political math is just as straightforward. If the Democratic candidate for Congress supported a plan that resulted in every American giving up their current health plan for a government-controlled system, the Republican wins that district 50% to 38%.

Democrats Want to Use Seniors as a Prop

Jayapal told Politico that even older Americans who "used to have some resistance" now support Medicare for All. But our polling shows the seniors who actually vote in the districts that decide elections are satisfied with their coverage and do not want the government yanking it away.

This fall, Democrats in Michigan, Maine, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Minnesota, and beyond are running on eliminating private health insurance. They are not treating it as a fringe idea. Jayapal is already coordinating with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, who is himself an original co-sponsor of the bill.

This is the governing agenda of the Democratic Party if they take power.

Republicans Have a Clear Choice, and So Do Voters

Seniors Matter for America has been sounding the alarm all year. In September, we launched a six-figure ad campaign exposing Democrats' Medicare for All agenda and what it would do to American seniors. In July, we called out Democrats when they held a formal congressional hearing to push single-payer forward on Capitol Hill. Our polling has shown consistently that seniors are watching, and they will hold their representatives accountable.

The data is clear: Republicans who fight against government-controlled healthcare will be rewarded. The voters are there. The contrast could not be sharper.

Democrats want to take your doctor, cancel your coverage, raise your taxes, open the system to illegal immigrants, and blow up the national debt, all to fund a government program that the people who actually have to live under it do not want.

President Trump has said plainly: "Under this administration, we will always protect Social Security and Medicare." That commitment is the difference between the two parties heading into November. Seniors built this country. They deserve a healthcare system that works for them, not a government experiment designed in Washington by politicians who have never worried about their own coverage a day in their lives.
