New FabrizioWard Poll: Battleground District Voters Would Massively Reward Republicans Who Fight Against Government-Controlled Healthcare

Survey of Battleground Voters Finds GOP Has Clear Opening to Put Democrats on Defense Over Their Government-Controlled Healthcare Policy

A new survey conducted by FabrizioWard finds that voters in battleground districts will massively reward Republicans that fight against creating a government-controlled healthcare system, also known as Medicare for All.  

The poll of 1,000 likely voters across the 37 districts rated by the Cook Political Report as Toss Up, Lean Republican, or Lean Democrat was conducted on behalf of Seniors Matter for America, a conservative coalition dedicated to advancing President Trump's seniors-first agenda.  

The survey found that Republicans have a powerful and clear opportunity to put Democrats on defense heading into the midterms by highlighting the Left's re-ignited push to eliminate private health insurance and move all Americans to government-controlled coverage. 

“Republicans can win running against far-left plans for government-controlled healthcare, which would result in more government debt, higher taxes and spending, and the removal of choice,” the memo reads. 

The findings come as Democrat candidates and sitting members of Congress across the country are making “Medicare for All” a centerpiece of their midterm pitch, and as members of the Congressional Progressive Caucus recently held a formal hearing on Capitol Hill advancing the single-payer agenda, signaling it remains a top priority for the Democrat Party heading into November, despite Americans’ rejection of government-run healthcare. 

Key findings

• 9-in-10 likely voters in these battleground districts are currently insured, and 85% say they are satisfied with the coverage they have, including 46% who are very satisfied

• More than 4-in-5 voters with private insurance like their current health care plan

• If the Democratic candidate for Congress supported a plan that resulted in every American having to give up their current health plan and move to a government-controlled system, the Republican would win 50% - 38%

• Voters say they are less likely to support a Democrat backing government-run healthcare by double-digit margins when told it would:

  • Net -26 points: Open a single government plan to all, including illegal immigrants, adding trillions to the national debt that our children and grandchildren will pay for

  • Net -22 points: Risk either massive increase in government outlays to healthcare providers or closing hospitals and doctor's offices unable to operate under Medicare reimbursement rates

  • Net -18 points: Result in the biggest middle-class tax increase in history

  • Net -17 points: Eliminate every American's existing health coverage and replace it with a one-size-fits-all government system
