Promises Made, Promises Kept. What Republicans Can Talk About with Seniors Before November.
Voters 50 and older are the most reliable voters in an election, and they play an even more important role in the 2026 midterms. Older adults vote at much higher rates than younger Americans, which gives them outsized influence in low-turnout years. Recent polling found that these voters are driven mostly by financial worries: groceries, medicine, utilities, and protecting their promised benefits like Social Security.
With the election just weeks away, here is a pro-seniors playbook for what Republican candidates should be messaging on:
Republicans Secured the Largest Tax Break in History for Seniors
Many seniors don't know about the new tax cut, and candidates need to spread the word on the One Big Beautiful Bill’s benefits. The OBBB created a $6,000 deduction for taxpayers 65 and older ($12,000 for married couples filing jointly), available from 2025 through 2028.
The White House Council of Economic Advisers estimates that 88% of seniors receiving Social Security will owe no federal tax on those benefits. A single senior with the average benefit of about $24,000 sees deductions that exceed their taxable Social Security income.
Republicans are Holding Democrats’ Feet to the Fire on Medicare
Medicare is a promise to the 62 million Americans 65+ who rely on it. Republicans are protecting their benefits, while Democrats push a dangerous government controlled healthcare plan.
Michigan Senate candidate Mike Rogers summed up the contrast perfectly, as reported: "He wants Medicare for All. I want Medicare for Seniors. They've earned it, they've worked for it, let's improve it."
Every Republican should use that message. Medicare for All would take the program seniors paid into for decades and spread it across the entire country in a bureaucratic nightmare. Republicans want to keep Medicare for the seniors who earned it.
Republicans also protect choice within Medicare. More than half of Medicare beneficiaries choose Medicare Advantage, a program President Trump’s Administration has supported. Republicans will protect seniors' right to choose the coverage that works for them.
The One Big Beautiful Bill also protects Medicare by limiting eligibility to U.S. citizens and lawful permanent residents. Medicare dollars go to the Americans who paid for them.
Republicans are Safeguarding Fair Drug Prices for Seniors
For decades, Americans paid more for prescription drugs than anyone in the world. President Trump took that on directly. In February, he launched TrumpRx.gov, which gives patients access to prices in line with the lowest paid by other developed nations. That pricing came from most-favored-nation deals with AstraZeneca, Eli Lilly, EMD Serono, Novo Nordisk, and Pfizer.
The program keeps growing. TrumpRx started with about 40 brand-name medicines and now lists more than 800 medications, including hundreds of common generics.
Republican candidates should run on this win. Republicans are making drug companies give Americans the same deal they give the rest of the world.
The Bottom Line: Republicans Deliver for Seniors
Seniors were promised that their benefits would be protected and that Washington would put more money back in their pockets. President Trump and Republicans kept both promises:
A new $6,000 senior deduction ($12,000 for couples)
No tax on Social Security for 88% of seniors who receive it
A 2.8% Social Security increase in 2026
Medicare and Medicare Advantage protected for the seniors who earned it
Lower prices on prescription drugs through TrumpRx
That's the record. Republicans should make sure every senior hears it before they vote.
