New Poll Shows Over Two-Thirds of Seniors Focused on Healthcare Costs Ahead of Midterms
Nationwide survey finds voters over 65 are less likely to support a candidate who votes to limit their promised benefits
Seniors Matter for America (SMFA), a conservative coalition dedicated to advancing President Trump's seniors first agenda, today released a new nationwide poll showing that seniors’ health care is a key affordability issue that could move older voters this November.
Senior voters overwhelmingly support candidates who protect their promised benefits, like Medicare Advantage (MA), and would punish congressional candidates who limit the availability of their healthcare plans. The Trump administration has consistently protected the program, and this new poll suggests those positions will be rewarded in November.
The new survey polled voters over the age of 65 nationwide, and also zoned in on the key state-specific samples of seniors in Florida, New York, Texas, Idaho, Louisiana, and Kentucky.
Key findings include:
69% of seniors say healthcare policy directly impacts how they vote for a candidate, including large majorities of seniors in these state-specific oversamples:
74% of seniors in Florida
68% of seniors in Texas
65% of seniors in Louisiana
63% of seniors in New York
61% of seniors in Idaho
60% of seniors in Kentucky
67% of seniors would be less likely to support a congressional candidate who voted to limit the availability of Medicare Advantage plans.
74% of MA enrollees say the cost of their healthcare plan is "just right."
Opposition to cutting Medicare Advantage crosses party lines: 62% of Republicans and 73% of Democrats say they would be less likely to support a candidate who votes to cut MA.
